[Release page] Turning more towards dub than its darker step-brother, Quanta (aka 18-yr musical veteran Shane Harris) is the latest signing for Australia’s Enig’matik, an imprint that has steadily nurtured its bass in many a form and function. Crossing through fields of chilled reggae, the Overflow EP initially feels like variations of its adjacent parts. Smoldering bass, trudging beats, spaced lyrical blurbs and precision mastering of low-end frequencies are perhaps Quanta’s finest points. Within each liquid rhythm lies a buried melodic burst of energy floating above a smokey haze. As the self contained five tracks twist themselves into familiar bits, bytes and bass, one can’t help but become hypnotized by Overflow‘s magnetic pull. Borrowing from its adjacent ingredients without any sign of repetition, tightly rolled waves of downtempo dub smothers the senses during this twenty-nine minute manifesto.
Overflow is available on Enig’matik. Buy at Bandcamp.
