Its four parts are music for a fifth season, when the mind is in an autumnal fugue state in the middle of a bright, rainless summer.
Buoyant, radiant, this second collaboration between Polish and Japanese ambient mainstays Pleq and Hakobune (after last year’s Adrift) is matter and light floating in the white holes of its zeroes. Its four parts are music for a fifth season, when the mind is in an autumnal fugue state in the middle of a bright, rainless summer.
The duo have laid paper-thin layer upon layer, all faintly stirring and quivering. The fingers touching guitar strings on “0.2” go backward as deftly as they go frontward. Everything is cyclical, but each cycle reveals something new and enriching. The final, eighteen-minute track, “0.4,” is just about the most weightless thing you will ever hear. Weightless, but far from insubstantial.
