The long, wavering organ drone of “The Joy of Loneliness” presses against and eventually pierces a fog of static, causing a cloudburst of granules. “Resting on Intensity” conjures “those blue remembered hills…the land of lost content,” to which you can return, or at least reimagine. With its vast panoramic view, “Middle Point” proves the duo each have the head for heights of a steeplejack.

The Prelude To is only four tracks of original material, though they be four, very dense, obliquely narrative ones. The remaining space is turned over to three remixers, beginning with The Green Kingdom’s eccentric circles of sighs. Christopher Bissonnette regathers the scattered clouds over those blue hills and Olan Mill adds some cheer to “The Joy of Loneliness.”

Regretfully, The Long Story Recording Company only briefly replaced (or perhaps complemented) Twice Removed, a Perth-based label that in its five-year existence released sheaves of thoughtful, experimental electronica in imaginative designs under the aegis of Gavin Catling. With the final word delivered by Darren McClure, it too now bids adieu.
