Parallel Worlds :: Plector (DiN)

Plector sees Parallel Worlds on his third solo mission with DiN, and once again encapsulates darker atmospheres, especially as the opening title-track showcases so well.

An auditory adventure through Parallel Worlds’ parallel world

It should be no surprise to ambient music aficionados that Parallel Worlds (aka Athens-based synthesist Bakis Sirros) would continue to expand his sonic vision with influences, according to Discogs, including Autechre, Plaid, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Robert Rich, Steve Roach, Pete Namlook, Biosphere, Plone, Brian Eno, and Seefeel, just to name a few. Plector sees the artist on his third solo mission with DiN, and once again encapsulates darker atmospheres, especially as the opening title-track showcases so well. The subtle, subdued, and subterranean scope of “Plector” seems to be enough to fuel the whole album with its warbling synth details and soundtrack mood.

As the album continues, there are evenly dispersed peaks and valleys. Brittle sound bytes burst into colorful audible strands; case in point, “Shapes” and “Dysfunction.” The album is noted as having been “built upon two groups of three rhythmic tracks interspersed with the dark drone of “Atmoform” and the beautiful, almost Eno-esque final track, “Harmonic Pathways”.” The ambient swells of “Atmoform” also seep into the subconscious as “Dark Machinery” casts modular synth shadows that break apart into pseudo-industrial forms. One can also find a treasure trove of glitch-like shapes by listening to “Intensity” and the microscopic tentacles of “Angles.”

Overall, Plector is a welcomed foray, an auditory adventure through Parallel Worlds’ parallel world, and comes highly recommended.

Plector is available on DiN. [Bandcamp]
