Sanyo 07.1 / Sanyo 07.2 (Remixes), credited to the duo, are on the other hand smooth and refined, softening the clank of a temple bell, enveloping it in silken cigarette smoke strings on the first, gliding silently through the city streetscape on the second.

Nigel Samways & Foss Moigne :: Sanyo 07.1 / Sanyo 07.2 (Remixes) (I Never Think Of You)

INTOYI never think of you – is a new imprint launched in March 2016 by Nigel Samways, a true English poet if there ever was one, who gently twists tapes to bring out the surreal in very real surroundings. Its remit is mainly ambient and drone music, but Samways cautions his audience to be wary of the happenstance of repetitive beats and pulses.

After debuting with the coincidental digital release of two singles, Foss Moigne’s lyrically brutalist Cyclops / Cyclopean and his own DSCF29Shipmate / DSCF31Bathymetry—a thickly-textured ambient Flying Dutchman backlit by the false dawn—Samways proffers the label´s first physical object, a three-inch disc containing remixes of Sanyo 07.1 / Sanyo 07.2. The latter are only available online and consist of sudden bursts of red-raw, unprocessed mono field recordings made by Samways on a mini-cassette dictaphone while visiting Japan in 2007.

Sanyo 07.1 / Sanyo 07.2 (Remixes), credited to the duo (though Foss Moigne is so absent from the Internet that I suspect he is in fact Samways), are on the other hand smooth and refined, softening the clank of a temple bell, enveloping it in silken cigarette smoke strings on the first, gliding silently through the city streetscape on the second. The record closes with the super-artificial, Tomita-like ping-pong of “Midnight Temple (Coda),” a brisk palette cleanser.

Sanyo 0.71 / Sanyo 0.72 (Remixes) is available on I Never Think Of You.
