So who are Monkeytribe? Well, they hail from Glasgow and consist of 4 members; Paladini the DJ and all round audio visual technician, vocalist and rapper MC Soom Tee, funky tripped out hippie axeman Col B and DJ, producer and webmaster Cook. All four are accomplished in their own areas of expertise, having played many underground shows and clubs and even collaborated with some major players on the electronic scene (The Orb being a regular name to appear on their website).
So why haven’t I heard of them before? To be honest, I have no idea. “Delaware” is a cracking single and made me want to find out more about these guys straight away. The single consists of 3 versions of the title track – the radio, extended and extended instrumental versions. The track itself features the impressively smooth vocal talents of MC Soom Tee. A slick and infectious mix of super laid-back breaks, chimes and dubby basslines, Col B’s funky chilled guitar work with Tee’s vocal switching from beautiful silky soul to street-wise rap. The extended version gives more of the same with the instrumental treating us to the full on trip-hop chillout of the super-cool music. Why this track isn’t a hit is beyond me. Love it.
