For his sophomore release and first album for Combat—-London, UK based producer Metalogue brings powerful industrial electronics with a razor-sharp edge. Dark ambient soundscapes and cleverly glitched drum tracks culminate to form post-industrial environments reminiscent of Gridlock’s Further and Trace era. Punishing, over-driven beats and intelligently distorted rhythms give Anomaly an apocalyptic feel that would fit right in with mid-2000’s releases from Ant-Zen or their sub-label, Hymen. “Tephra,” features contributions by Fluff and showcases the perfect blend of hard-hitting percussion and gentle, classical piano. One of the deeper cuts on the album “Terrain of the Curse,” is a gloomy collaboration track with Eye Spirit, focusing on murky vocal samples buried underneath well designed synth pads. The album then wraps up with a supplemental remix track of the title track by breakcore/IDM innovator Monster X (Opal Tapes, Combat). Brutal, annihilating drum tracks paired with noisy synth work will satisfy fans of groups like Synapscape, Vromb, Noisex, and classic Gridlock.

Anomaly is available on Combat.
