Clasicos Del Ruido has just opened its doors with the explicit intention of exploring Dark Electro, Synth and EBM.
Spanish Wave can be a tricky customer to come across. It is represented on labels like Domestica and Atemporal, with both delving into the past. Now there’s a new imprint to add to this burgeoning list. Clasicos Del Ruido has just opened its doors with the explicit intention of exploring Dark Electro, Synth and EBM.
First through said doors are Medio Escinico. You’d be forgiven for not having heard of the duo of Manel Ruiz (same as above) and J.M. Yeti as Llegara Al Cielo is the partnership’s first vinyl outing. But forgiveness might not be so forthcoming if you’re breezing over this offering. The title piece, a modern and terse piece of synth pop, has found itself on constant repeat in my flat. Catchy, kitsch and driving the track is pure analogue addiction. “Fea” follows. Layers of complexity form. Voice, chords and snapping beats cross one another, finally merging into a frenetic finale. “El Problema” is a tough and surging piece of contemporary Wave, rich analogue chords piercing lovelorn lyrics. The compuphonic “Estela Fiestar” brings the EP to a close. Clicks and almost indecipherable vocals are carried on breathy bars.
With the focus on re-issuing within the Minimal Synth world it’s great to see a new platform starting out with a contemporary artist, a present-day Wave artist to boot. Medio Escinico are following the path laid down by early pioneers while reshaping it to fit their era. What’s next Clasicos Del Ruido?
