This release is a big one. It’s a body mover from two of the leading lights of the Ad Noiseam dubstep stable.
[Release page] Matta and Niveau Zero team up to present a veritable tour de force with this heavy dubstep oriented 12” vinyl release. Clearly aimed at the DJ market, Riot/Be Real is destined to cause some proper damage. Both these producers carry some serious clout these days, having both released critically acclaimed albums in the last few years on Ad Noiseam. In_Sect by Niveau Zero has been on my playlist since very soon after it came out. His dark but highly danceable version of dubstep is brutally heavy, and produced cleverly with a good eye for the club. Matta is one of the best UK dubstep producer crews around, managing to be fresh and innovative with their productions, and of course they have that magic touch with the drums.
These two tracks are very clearly the collaborative result of these producers. The intense electro lead lines of Niveau Zero, and those quirky vocal samples, which although quite a common technique in dubstep, seem to bear his trademark regardless, mix with the big and detailed drum sounds and thick atmospheres of Matta. Not to say I can distinguish who did what on these tracks, but there are certainly bits that stand out as being one or the other.

Both Matta and Niveau Zero are apparently working on albums at the moment, so this might be seen as a little break from the long hours of solo work in a dark studio somewhere. A most welcome one for all those who love the intensity and non conformity of these producers.
