Low End Resorts :: Dungeons of Miami (Megastructure)

Deep layers of abstract electronics are present in each of the nine compositions, which are layered over a variety of sculpted noises and textured rhythms.

Swirling melodic slabs and complex sound fields

Dungeons of Miami is the latest sonic assemblage from exp-electronic legends Romulo Del Castillo (Phoenecia, Schematic, Warp) and Nick Forté (DFA, Schematic, Kranky), who collaborate as Low End Resorts. Deep layers of abstract electronics are present in each of the nine compositions, which are layered over a variety of sculpted noises and textured rhythms. With its smoldering synths and modular mayhem, the title track (and “RV Spill”) lead the way and eventually fade into subatomic technoid structures and fractured soundscapes. Tracks like “Broken Fiend” and “When U Break Things,” with their swirling melodic slabs and complex sound fields that crack at the seams, continue the turbulence and shifting tones.

And yet, with the meandering “Sleeping In The Ocean,” and its racket of crumpled and claustrophobic rhythms, the duo manages to climb above it all. Closing with more than ten minutes of “Anxious Now,” Low End Resorts provides a kaleidoscope of ambient shoegaze trajectories and evolving downtempo tapestries all entangled in this enigmatic yet alluring hypnosis, moving even further away from their mind-bending audio avalanche. Recommended for fans of Hecate, Fennesz, Cyrusrex, and original Phoenecia and Nick Forté recordings.
