Shapeshifting through industrial wastelands with technoid precision

As an artist with a classical background and also merging film noir atmospherics, analog instruments and field recordings—Liza Aikin is a Berlin-resident that recently unleashed this 4-track EP of harder-edged industrial techno spheres titled Infirm Past for Utrecht’s Obscuur.

“Enclave” scrapes the landscape with punching beats and rattling rhythms that form the basis for what’s ahead. “Hospital Bed” is an arcane eruption of stripped-down techno with a gritty backbone that echoes its harsher reality. VSK takes “Enclave” to another dimension with shuffling glitch, bass, and mechanical dynamics as its core grinds into emptiness. Swarm Intelligence eradicates “Hospital Bed” with additional beatwork that further develops the original—its aggressive nature is packed with punctuated drums that collide with a rugged backdrop of rhythmic fury and is a highlight of the pack. Infirm Past ultimately is a blistering electronic behemoth shapeshifting its way through industrial wastelands with technoid precision.
