Dub Exorcism by Leather Parisi is a deep dark excursion into an infernal, sepulchral domain. Drawing on some of the basic elements of dub—echo, reverb, bass—Leather Parisi shows a deft understanding of sound craft as well as a strong hand at the mixer. “Neon Scuum” bangs and clangs into hearing while a deep voice intones darkly, echoing into the fadeout. “Guanco Di Sale” unfolds slowly, bass and sampled tones forming into a lumbering sonic juggernaut. “Social Monogamy” is a metallic screech of reverb drenched drones and juddering percussion veering into glitch territory. “Vox Arcana” is a simmering slow build of synthetic sound beds giving way to hard, disorienting percussion. “Opal Grim,” (our favorite) uses vocal samples looped into disorienting cycles as deep synthetic percussion phases and fans the flames of a dark conflagration. The album closes with the faux clerical, hyper-apocalyptic “Post Noisem Domini,” a short stealthy offering to dark spirits. Highly recommended.
