When every piece of Ghosts taken into account, it can be said that this is one of the very few singles that have the ability to elevate the performance levels of other musicians. The emotional soundscape, haunting lyrics, and blatant creativity was a pleasure to not only listen to, but to think about as well.
There is something to be said about the poetry of Kloudbreak’s latest EP. A piece of music which tells its story in a throng of facets while simultaneously belting out daring and emotional soundscapes comes around far too rarely. Ghosts had the potential to sound cheesy but was thankfully steered in the opposite direction as a result of the talent Kloudbreak has.
“Ghosts” in its original splendor opens the EP up with a ghoulish aura. With a light crackling sound resembling white noise and soft drum tapping in a spontaneous yet melodic way, the mood is unmistakable. The most amazing quality of “Ghosts” is how much all aspects come together and create an eerie, yet sultry ambiance. Ending with intensifying cadences which suddenly cease to exist is the perfect conclusion.
All in all “Ghosts” was enchanting. If there had to be one change the track which could have very well been left off this EP was the Stressor Remix. It’s not that this remix was bad as surely it was not. This is the result of the other three tracks sounding more powerful. The “Eagles For Hands” remix arguably the best one on Ghosts, variates between a ghostly “ooh” and dubstep’s signature wobble. The mood felt is a longing for the past with desires to move forward and was undoubtedly the best way to complete the EP.
Conceptually Kloudbreak’s EP should be considered a work of art. When broken down to Ghost’s basic meaning—stop glorifying the past with an ex and move on—there isn’t one person who can’t relate in some way or another. In addition to the meaning, each remix haunts the previous one while they all completely distort the original. In short, this EP actually “acts out” the song’s meaning.
