The sounds of early electronic music is in full force via miniature audio polaroids where modular blips and bleeps forage through darker ambient channels. Fascinated by TV soundtracks from the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop, cosmic and psychedelic records from his parents vinyl collection, Spherical Harmonics is an analog dreamscape of rhythmic proportions.

The atmospheric and circular loops of “Riptide” are offset by its microscopic clicks’n cuts sibling “Fathoms.” Dabbling with the tiniest sonic elements to create a widescreen panoramic, “Agency” and “Beacon” tread through technoid elements—background noodling that simply takes the listener into nostalgic ethereal realms. “Outposts,” perhaps a culmination of all that has passed before our eyes and ears, is blissfully intact—its minimalist modular techno bubbles burst at the seams allowing Spherical Harmonics to do just what it set out to accomplish.

According to the press-release, “everything was built from the ground up and based around simple mathematical ratios rather than traditional music theory.” This synopsis is grounded via Joseph Hyde’s hypnotic and surreal use of looping modular and organic structures that are easy on the ears and yet complex enough to transcend time and space.
