Acid-drenched downtempo breaks and broken beats
Nine tracks spread across almost 45-minutes—the prolific Andy Jaggers (aka ADJ) reinstates his IX moniker for the Pyramid Transmissions imprint. Not exactly Jaggers’ deep-rooted electro on Personal Energy Device, instead, we are taken on a trip through dark, bass heavy, and acid-drenched downtempo breaks and broken beats.
Along the way we are also treated to lightly peppered melodic strands in the Warp RecordsArtificial Intelligence vein (reference “Armana” and “Solar Disc”)—the subtle melodies form the foundation for these two pieces. Heavily punctuated percussion takes front seat on this album, “Band of Peace” maneuvers acid warbling finesse as harmonic energies of the human body are exposed (vocal sample). IX manages to push forward via darkened rhythms and a tinge of IDM experimentation as evidenced on the gritty and buzzing “Third Eye.” The staccato and glitch-hop mood of “Sacred Feminine” to the laser beam flashes and nostalgic harmonies on “Light Beam” eases the listener into this albums’ encrusted outer shell. “Eternal Energy Source” is another example of fractured drums and brisk tunefulness further displaying IX’s ability to merge opposing forces with just the right degree of accuracy and balance.
A strong effort of downtempo and deep bass electronics with a punch.
