Another expansive panoramic sonic punch
With the release of the five-track Electrode EP for Section 27, Eugene Rowlett’s HATCH project—which continues to shatter bass bins all around the globe—delivers another expansive panoramic sonic punch. Each track maintains a strong synth infusion gone awry with rough electro, breaks, and rhythmic distortion at the foreground. Braindance and hardcore blips and bleeps are mixed with roughed breakbeats and slimy grooves in the opening title track. While “Bottomless” feels more robotic in its electro’n acid delivery, “Rars” transports listeners to a bygone era with its thunderous percussion and mayhem bathed in acid. The closing track “Newfangled” is possibly the most rudimentary of the bunch with its raw claps and scorching 303 acid-swirling machine music, but the rubbery acidic groove of “Plugin Tester” takes first place with its twisted slow-motion synthesizer funk and grit in the vein of MBM.
