A beautiful, topnotch output from every facet. The music, the mix, the production, the artwork, everything is constructed with love, passion and expertise. Ultimae and Mizoo start 2017 with a rich, pulsating blast of ambient, downtempo electronica and techno-ish deep trance, provided by a superb, international battery of artists—label regulars and newcomers. A work of great artistry. Polished, sharp, captivating.

Take Off

The journey starts with a track by Om aka Ovnimoon. A pure, ethereal ambient flow full of nuance. Claudio PRC takes the reins with “Domo,” a delicately effervescent affair pulsing slowly and blossoming hypnotically. Scann-Tec’s “Parsec (live edit)” comes in next. The original version of the track appears on Unyt, Scann-Tec’s deeply impressive debut album for Ultimae, released last year. The live edit delivers a powerful, uplifting dub techno-infused deep trance take that launches the listener into space. Again Scann-Tec demonstrates his versatility, this time not only with a beautifully intricate track but also with mastering skills together with label honcho Vincent Villuis aka AES Dana at Ultimae Studios.

Flying

Cell’s “Security” continues the spacey deep trance pulsation with electric floating maneuvers and soft techno tendencies. Cell always provides something special and refreshing. Rumor says he is working on a new album, and that is definitely something to look forward to. AES Dana slides in next with a double dosage of vibrant luminous darkness. First with “Iolite,” a track that features Mizoo, the journey’s Sherpa himself. Then AES Dana continues solely with ” Grassland.” I Awake and Hybrid Leisureland change the direction a bit with a busy downtempo concoction. “Throwback” by Mystic Crock—new blood in the Ultimae roster—sneaks into the mix elegantly armed with mystically organic pyrotechnics. A highly atmospheric track that makes one wonder how a full album for Ultimae by this artist would sound like. Ascendant is the space ambient project of Chris Bryant and Don Tyler, heads of Synphaera Records. Here, with “Black Flowers” the duo explores a more rhythmic path, blending its emotional signature sound and style with groovy techno gymnastics. A perfect fit to the compilation made to the highest Ultimae standards.

Landing

Miktek is in charge of the journey’s final stage. With “As Mnemonics” he smoothly and safely brings us back home. Dreamy, organic downtempo electronica with a trip hop drive.
