A jumble of twisted and disjointed glitch extrusions
Nein Aber Ja by General Magic features a jumble of twisted and disjointed glitch extrusions as nine tracks blend together. These pieces seem to have undergone extensive noise treatment; odd industrial shards flicker around the outer edges as abstract structures appear in the backdrop. Similar to the fragmented sounds of Mouse On Mars, Datach’i, and Not Breathing, sonic textures are repurposed to unleash shattered compositions with crackling beatwork and sandblasting electronics at the foreground. And yet it feels as though we’ve had these tracks in our collection for years. Turbulent technoid noises, which evoke a fascinating experimental hypnosis, originate from deep beneath the Earth’s outer crust, combining field recordings, distorted electrical pulses, punctuated non-linear rhythms, and found sounds to create an oddly surreal mixture.
Nein Aber Ja is Andi Pieper and Ramon Bauer’s first full-length album as General Magic since 2000’s Rechenkönig.
