Flamingo Pudding’s production is a cross-pollination of just about every other IDM sub-genre and escapes without a scratch as it scatters a veritable assemblage of styles.
Various audible trinkets lost in a shuffle of genre extracts keeps Flamingo Pudding’s colorful and quirky rhythms intact. Broken post-pop funk, disco-tech, hip-hop, snapshots of faded video game soundtracks (reminiscent of early Kracfive conspirators Pacman vs. Colongib) are ever present amongst brittle melodies. Nuggets of brilliance appear in ambient shapes—”Lemo,” “Eefa” and “Tekkel”—yet Flamingo Pudding struggles to find an identity on Mountain Bike Adventure Kid. Perhaps the struggle for sonic consistency is an intentional endeavor to break preconceived notions of presenting one musical trajectory.
Audible gears switch and take the listener into Plod/Plone pop sensibilities as bass-hop persists via the erratically coherent pulse of “Chemirespond” and the leftfield techno slants featured on “ILFM.” There are even a few Skam-infested notes (ie. “Abhords”) where hints of Team Doyobi-styled electronics pierce through the haze. Flamingo Pudding’s production is a cross-pollination of just about every other IDM sub-genre and escapes without a scratch as it scatters a veritable assemblage of styles.
