In recent years there seems to have been a reduction in the number of artists exploring the sounds of cosmic and italo. It’s interesting to see Fader’s interpretation, developing a midnight synthesizer sound; a slow and thoughtful take with a definite dancefloor element.
New year and time for a new label. From The Netherlands arrives Borneo Records, an imprint finding just enough time to release its debut EP before the throngs tuck into turkey and then chorus “Auld Lang Syne.”
“Fortunate Alpha” comes from the traditions of electro-disco. The track is light, airy and melodic. Synthesizer hardware is the primary ingredient but the outcome is not Italo pastiche, rather an analogue wave pop with layers of complexity. Sir Stephen, of W.T. Records and 100% Silk fame, is on call for some remix action. The original is given a new angle, with rumbling machinery and a neon stripes festooning the chords. Sir Stephen’s Dub Version closes. The track takes its cue from the remix, adding some broader and bolder elements to bubble in some new sounds.
In recent years there seems to have been a reduction in the number of artists exploring the sounds of cosmic and italo. It’s interesting to see Fader’s interpretation, developing a midnight synthesizer sound; a slow and thoughtful take with a definite dancefloor element. A warming start to the new year.
