(05.27.08) It’s 2008, the new year has been soundly rung in and it’s time for Mighty Robot Recordings to emerge from its wintery slumber and embrace the dawn of Summer with a new release. In 2006 English Electric gave us his take on Sneak Thief’s downtempo disco piece ‘Open The Door.’ It has been almost two years since English Electric has graced a slab of vinyl, and the time has come for a debut: Auto Beam EP.

English Electric’s sound is a blend of classic synth soundtrack and electro, both blending together to create a cerebral dancefloor amalgam. The record opens with “Monarch,” a symphony of space with an arpeggioed electronix twist; amazing piece to start an EP with. ‘DRM’ moves into cleaner, more reverberated territory, while maintaining elements of its predecessors cosmic sound.

Dicky Trisco opens the B-Side with his take on “DRM.” Many aspects of the original are kept, with the intro being extended to give easy mix access. “Giorgio et Jim” is a perfect example of English Electric’s combination of electronics, floating 70s space disco keys with a backdrop of electro ambience to produce a cosmic DJ friendly piece similar to Roland Sebastian Faber’s ‘Hommages.’

English Electric is of a small group of electronic artists that are not just reclaiming 70’s electro disco and the synth OST, but using modern equipment to create something new from past influences. This is not nu disco in the Lindstrom vein, but a mirrorball space excursion with serious influences from electronix and modern electro. English Electric has graphed a new age feel to the works of Vagelis, Moroder and Carpenter whilst blending it with European electro slants to make a personal and deep sound. English Electric is a solid addition to the ever-inspiring Mighty Robot Recordings’ roster.

Auto Beam is out now on Mighty Robot.
