Elegant and innovative, Textures is an amazing collection of forward-thinking modern electronic music without loosing a mile in the (as well important) most emotional field.
Californian veteran beatmaker Elusive returns on the amazing Alpha Pup imprint to present his new full length Textures, after the Harmony In Free Form EP released in March of 2015. As the title may easily suggest, the element that works as a trait d’union for the whole album, are the persistent vinyl cracks and a myriad of other strange sounds, tiny noises, pops and whirls that permeate all of the sixteen tracks presented, creating a dense and intriguing sonic tapestry.
However this complex backdrop where the tracks come alive, generated by an unending array of sources, remain as warm as unintrusive, letting the listener to feel like floating safely in an amniotic room. “Moonbeamz” kicks off the album in a hazy way, opening with jazzy-tinged tones and intricate beats, peppered with plenty of unusual sounds, while the following “Love Is Enough” goes on in a dreamy mood, with spirals of synths and sparse female vocals to ensure a delightful atmosphere full of warmth. Then different feelings alternate between the tracks, smooth or rough in the contents, always with a different approach, but with a steady-on and coherent thread. Basslines and dissected vocals occasionally resurface in “Live Without You” and “Morning After,” carefully adorned with a great amount of intricacy, whereas the placid landscapes slightly drawn and the pure beauty of the most quiet moments return in “Simple Joys” and “Rollin Stoned.”
