Disappearer 'Now You See Me'

Disappearer Universal Rejection is a new label hailing from Sweden. The label is one record down, with Arab League offering a clambering piece of acidic Techno to get the imprint rolling. For its latest the Scandinavian outfit introduces Disappearer, a new name to the electronic scene. So what’s this two tracker, Now You See Me / Now You Don’t about?

“Now You See Me” gets things underway. The track builds in a Berlin Techno tradition, lurching forward with a distanced industrial minimalism. Think in the line of a subdued yet bawdy Basic Channel and you’re on the right line—claustrophobic, insular and daunting. Music for late nights and blackened windows. “Now You Don’t” comes from a similar place. Disappearer isn’t afraid of exploring the darker recesses, bludgeoning the listener with a rusty acid bar while he does so. Echoes of the Acid Planet sound flash in the track’s uncompromising assault, the BPM pared back for sanity’s sake—A fierce and wild-eyed number.

Now You See Me / Now You Don’t isn’t re-writing any annals, nor is it boldly striding some uncharted path. The latest EP on Universal Rejection is doling up some angry and sinister Techno. Both tracks are unapologetically profane—angry and desperate pieces of Techno. Somewhat familiar, but well executed. One for the neighbors to complain to.

Now You See Me is available on Universal Rejection. Buy at Amazon, iTunes or Juno.
