Not afraid to eradicate preconceived notions of fast paced glitch’n bass, Defrag (aka Jeff Dodson) deploys melodic bells, whistles, subtle chants, 8-bit triggers, and broken amen breaks venturing into distracted and often frenetic lost lands. Stepping away from darker exp-electrons, Lost Lands emits fractured machine noise, Datach’i styled clipped electronics, sound-scraping chaos, bass and all manner of found sounds re-calibrated to the nth degree. The most cohesive of this brief six-pack is “While Birds Ate,” a mechanical smorgasbord made from tangled low-end tones and bristling synth flickers. A wide-angle electrical scope is revealed in these rather short length pieces which rip apart from start to end.
Lost Lands is available on The Irrational Media Society.
