From the midst of a conference of birds taking place high among the tree tops falls a single, unremarkable feather in the form of a lone musical note. The note is nothing compared to the intriguing mosaic of the birdsong, but as it catches an updraft it begins to shine.
Bruno Sanfilippo has been recording for over twenty years and has previously collaborated with artists including Alio Die and Mathias Grassow, with whom his own ambient work favourably compares. Max Corbacho is a kindred spirit from Barcelona with his own impressive, atmospheric discography. Together they amassed field recordings in the forests of Tarragona in eastern Spain, later adding their own electronic touches to create a unique “biome,” or ecosystem.
By penciling in detail with such tact, the natural and the synthetic coalesce. A burbling brook runs through it, the avian choir never quits, and a herd of goats is shepherded past once, twice, again.
