Blackred, as a club night, focused on the sounds of electro and its orbiting sonic satellites. This mini-album comes from the same place. The measured sounds of machines dominate, but not without some respite from the depths of tremulous acid-boxs and heady 101s.
[Release page] From Leipzig, Germany, comes a new endeavour from an old enterprise. Blackred was born from a club night that has ran since 2004. Now, with a solid design base, comes the label incarnation and a heavy hitting five tracker to get the ball rolling.
An Unknown Artist baptizes the label with “Byronic Hero.” The track melts electro with a dense and sinister glaze of electronica to produce a Dopplereffekt style opening. Germany’s Credit00 is up next. Making headway with Uncanny Valley, Alexander Dorn follows a similar vein as his predecessor. Cold electronics with a clinical slant warmed through by analogue chords. The rumbling engine of “AcidX” introduces Porkfour. This upcoming artist pierces the track with energy, creating melodic detours amongst the grain and grit. Newcomer Invalog keeps the electro train rolling with a reduced piece before Headnoaks allow abstraction to mesh with 808 for a concrete clad work. CVbox allow ambience to enter for the close—“Wechselbalg” sees pangs and chords floated into the stratosphere for a haunting close.

An exciting and involving compilation of new and upcoming electronic artists. First rate, first effort.
