Play It Backwards is the new extended player from legendary Bass Kittens, containing a new track and four remixes by Freaky Chakra, Mark Pistel, Single Cell Orchestra, and Bass Kittens himself. The title track is a mildly retro affair with LinnDrums pumping out a beat that Prince would definitely find the funk in. Percolating analog synths and digital jabs make their way into the affair with the results sounding a bit like “Prime Audio Soup”-era Meat Beat Manifesto (one of the remixers is in fact an MBM associate, the legend in the flesh Mark Pistel of the lamented and missed Consolidated). The remixes all dance around the original track, keeping up a welcomed retro funky vibe. It’s a good ass shaker of a release, one that will find a place in both modern and 80’s vibe connoisseurs. But don’t just play it backwards—play it often!
