(04.29.07) I have to say that on first listen I was worried that my suspicions were
right. Suspicion is the first release by new label post.disco and the CD
was written by the founder of the label.

Suspicious indeed as you might be willing to guess that he couldn’t get
anyone else to release it so he formed his own label. Add to this that the
packaging is excellent and unique which can usually mean it’s compensating
for something. So I was ready to give this release a panning.

On first listen this just sounded like badly done minimal IDM but halfway
through the second listen something happened. I understood what was going
on!

This EP HATES you.

Suspicion is not a release of anger or rage like pure noise or
industrial, it’s a bubbling pool of underlying detest and hatred that tries
to keep itself secret. Like the person who pretends to be friends with you,
sabotages your life and then offers you their shoulder to cry on, it’s a
very secretive seething hatred that feels personal and suppressed almost to
boiling point. You really do get that feeling of an impending explosion of
hatred kept just below the surface. Like I say, the other thing is it feels
directed precisely at YOU the listener but tries not to let you know. It
takes some examination to get to just like it would with a person.

Once I felt I knew where this EP was coming from it all made sense and I
could really enjoy it for what it was and by the third listen and beyond I
was really enjoying it. I am very pleased that this EP was given to me for
review otherwise it might never have got past the first listen. For those of
you who decide to purchase this, give it some patience, it’s not going to
blow your mind first listen.

I get the feeling that Tolga has some underlying oppressed hatred issues he
should maybe deal with, but selfishly I hope it’s not before he completes a
full album. And when that album comes out I’ll have to keep an eye on it and
make sure it doesn’t try to punch my granny to make me feel bad.

Suspicion is out now on post.disco. [post.disco
