[Download] Slicing pieces of funk, pop, dubstep, and IDM adorned with clipped vocal spurts, Auma‘s latest for Australian-based Enig’matik is the proverbial springboard for their entrance into an already overstuffed electronic scene. While each title contains uniquely manipulated ingredients, a touch of digital scribbles here, analog noodling there, the Interacting Process EP veers more into past iterations of IDM, rather than newer reformations. Not content with keeping these alienating tones in sync with each other, they often dissipate into thin air like a marine layer in the early morning hours. Auma utilizes (female) vocal assistance which actually propels this extended player through nostalgic places. Memories of Bjork’s vocal explorations via Plaid’s Not For Threes and 808 State’s Excel come to mind with this microcosm of electricty. This, as a result, refreshes an otherwise placid collection of modulated beeps and clicks that simply ache for an escape route. If this is just the beginning of Auma’s musical vision, we’re looking forward to his progression into full-length sonic plateaus.
