Marking a welcome return to the furor of contemporary electronic music, London’s Arkada resurfaces with ARKADA005, a six-track workout from Brussels’ Arsonist Recorder and Sigma. This is electro with the futurist chrome stripped back enough to expose the working parts: rolling bass, snapping breaks, brutal low-end pressure and melodies that still know how to carry a tune. The record feels contemporary without straining to prove it, drawing on the foundational grammar of electro while treating that grammar as ​something alive, flexible and available for further damage.

Arsonist Recorder takes the first three cuts straight to the machine soul. The rhythms are tight but never sterile, with heavyweight bass movement and synth lines that bring a real sense of propulsion. There is funk here, but it is not nostalgia-funk. It is the physical intelligence of the form: music built to make the body respond while the circuitry does something stranger underneath.

Sigma answers with three tracks that feel like an autopsy performed at club volume. The components are stripped down, isolated and rebuilt into lean, muscular constructions where breaks, bass and synthetic detail lock together with increasingly brutal efficiency. What makes the record work is the tension between its opposing instincts—sweet melody and hard mechanics, precision and abrasion, body-popping unity and 4am chicanery.
