Aria Rostami & Daniel Blomquist :: Still (Glacial Movements)

The eponymous state is more cocooned than hibernating

Five years on from Wandering Eye, which thematically linked to depiction of vantage points to observe space from the Antarctic Plateau, Glacial Movements releases Aria Rostami & Daniel Blomquist’s Still. In a further foray, it sets out to explore how time can change its motion in cold weather, deploying select recordings from 2015-2016, their first year of collaboration. Initially, tracks were built over long periods of time, typically intensifying, venturing into experimental techno, noise, and more traditional composition, while Still‘s tracks sat in a cryogenic state as they released more music, expanding their sound. Originally slated for a 2018 release, it was deferred further by release schedule conflicts. We could never have foreseen how the world would look in 2021 when this record would finally be released. Still thus captures a new spirit in their work. The eponymous state is more cocooned than hibernating, and though no global pandemic or present politics premonition, reception is unavoidably re-contextualized by recent events, rendering release delay serendipitous.
