Ard Bit :: Six Scores One EP (Self-Released)

Lounge electronics, wide open atmospheric spaces, minuscule field recordings, and cascading rhythms are explored in this gently exquisite six pack.

Downtempo grooves, spliced low-end, and fine-tuned synthesizer bliss

Ard Bit (aka Ard Janssen) has been at it for quite a while, producing a veritable mixture of downtempo grooves, spliced low-end, and fine-tuned synthesizer bliss with each production.

On the Six Scores One self-released extended player, the Rotterdam-based dutch composer exercises restraint while a myriad of found-sounds and emotive passages trickle through. As a talented musician that deserves additional kudos, many listeners have enjoyed his work with Lowriders, Shipwrec, and Symbolic Interaction.

Each piece on Six Scores One drifts and breaks apart, carefully unfolding tranquil notes, subtle piano key strokes, and an ambient air full of cosmic energies (ref. “Kern” as the best example). Perhaps the most mysterious of all mysteries is tucked away in “Clouds” where magnetic beats, heavier bass thumps, and an abstract glitch sheen allows this track to simply lift off into uncharted territory. “Ffog,” and the subtlety buried beneath its micro blips, sheds an earthy tone and drone that simply illuminates. The uplifting “Afterhook” is an inspired opening piano piece with flickering beats and a classical outer layer while tangled bits and pieces shimmy in the background.

Lounge electronics, wide open atmospheric spaces, minuscule field recordings, and cascading rhythms are explored in this gently exquisite six pack.

Six Scores One is available on Bandcamp.

(Update 9/24/2020) It’s been a year since Six Scores One was released. Joost Kosir, a video artist from Rotterdam, made a video for “Ffog,” one of the six tracks from the EP:

Joost Kosir (Dirty Brown Visuals) is a Rotterdam based video artist, delivering livid and hyperdynamic visuals around the globe for over two decades. Recently things went full circle for him when he moved back into creating and processing video with analog setups. Recent projects include his glitchy video work for Speedy J’s STOOR live sessions and building a new setup with self made analog video circuits. Joost directed and created the video for “Ffog” live with a fully analog video setup.
