Not much information is known on my end as to who the artist
by the name Andy Greenman is, but it seems like the folks at
Involve are beginning to increase their roster, and Andy Greenman
is one of their latest (London, UK based) artists. Signer on the other
hand is better known as that retail snob named Bevan Smith who
runs the Involve Records label (based out of New Zealand, now
operating in the UK) and working under the Aspen and Signer alias’s.
With those introductions out of the way, it’s time to delve into these deep
minimal tunes that Andy Greenman and Signer have created somewhere
in space.
If you ever wondered what it might sound like if an astronaut were
to do some work on the Hubble Telescope with background music,
then these three tracks may just do the trick. Casually placed snips
and snaps are tucked away underneath smart 4/4 beats in a vein
similar to Monolake versus Kit Clayton. A rippling layer of Berlin
styled dub unleashes itself on “01”, while “02” melts into
a more relaxed, integrated mix of soothing electrical sound clips.
The final track, “03” delves straight into its thick beats while a collage
of tiny tweaks massage the outer edges of this rather short tune.
From the previous sounds we’ve heard on the Kog Transmission/Involve
release by Signer entitled Giving it up to Feel Effected, this combo
between Andy Greenman and Bevan relies on a solid assortment of chilled
out atmospheric ambience with its subtleties left dangling in the
dark. Not quite the strongest release, but definitely a good title to drop
on the player on those late and lazy nights sipping red wine. Or perhaps
you could tap your feet to its chilled out minimal techno.
Take your pick..
As Bevan simply put it, “We’re focusing on deep ambient and rhythms,
capturing urban noise and filtrations. Creating grooves out of ambience.
Head noodling stuff.” I couldn’t agree more with this mission statement.
