Intensely textured industrial and electronic soundscapes
Aelk Minsur constantly mines for intensely textured industrial and electronic soundscapes, and he succeeds once more with MΩ Test Report. According to the artist, the release features inspiration from his work in the industrial electrical industry. “This time I’m incorporating sounds from induction microphones, megohmmeters, function generators, and hi-pot test equipment.” Using heavily processed noise, each track embodies serious sonic experimentation with its cryptic, heavy-duty equipment, and skewed structures. After a wide range of harsh noise segments preceding the closing piece (“C Phase to Ground”), the dust settles into a rhythmic flow amidst the flutter, transforming mechanical clangs into a hypnotic sequence that almost reaches the five minute mark. These visceral sounds are highly condensed, roughened, distorted, and pushing the boundaries of noise where musicians such as Jettenbach, Solypsis, Merzbow, and Malarki would be a close parallel. Aelk Minsur’s objective to not repeat himself with each release is demonstrated by the electrical current that powers his machines, whatever it may be at that time.
MΩ Test Report is available on Bandcamp.
