Distorted rhythm texturing

From the underbelly of modular electronics and dark ambient debris, California-based sound sculptor 3am (aka Justin Sullivan) provides unrelenting noise-scapes. From the opener “Without,” the brooding rhythm takes over the landscape, its meandering melody blurred. “Portend” traverses lighter crevasses; its technoid trudging mood echoes in the darkness as glitch fields expand. The faster paced “Decrement” flickers with modular machinery and pixelated beatwork. 3am closed with perhaps the most fluid of the lot; “Stone Fruit” displays the artists knack for distorted rhythm texturing, its funk buried deep within the Earth’s crust; minuscule blips’n bleeps bend at all angles. We’ve taken notice; it’s time to wake up to 3am’s electrical smorgasbord delight as Phantom Distinction Fallacy is hopefully the beginning of many more sonic outings.
