As one of the most prolific ambient/synth artists to date, Reality Engine is hardly surprising as it’s a continuous work of widescreen modern ambient electronics just as expected.
Sweeping synth strands and ambient dust drift past our eyes and ears
36’s sound is unquestionably his, with sweeping synth strands and ambient dust drifting past our eyes and ears, Reality Engine leads us through the fog and keeps moving forward—casting faint shadows on atmospheric layers. As Dennis Huddleston (also known as 36) captures these shadows in soundtrack Polaroids for his rapt audience, it’s as though a musical aura simply flows from his devices. These expertly composed works contain a great deal of detail that gradually becomes apparent as expansive memories and stringed melodies surround us.
It must be difficult to orchestrate a grouping of 10 pieces as strong as this, yet 36 skillfully lets each one expand on its own, as if they were all taken from the same musical fabric. As one of the most prolific ambient/synth artists to date, Reality Engine is hardly surprising as it’s a continuous work of widescreen modern ambient electronics just as expected.
