Lo Recordings announces Red Snapper’s “B Planet” single and new album set for an Autumn 2021 release.

Red Snapper announced new single on UK independent imprint Lo Recordings on 23rd April 2021

“B Planet” is the follow up to last years “Truth 1” single and the second in a series of three Red Snapper tracks which are set to be shared over the coming months prior to the release of their new album in Autumn. Recorded and mixed with award winning engineer Shuta Shinoda (Ghost Poet / Anna Meredith) at Hackney Road Studios, “B Planet” sees Red Snapper blend their hip-hop and funk sensibilities to great effect with a tune that morphs into a tripped out Theo Parrish / ‘Detroit Beatdown’ influenced sloppy head-nodder. Recalling the space-jazz journey elements found on earlier Snapper material, such as their Prince Blimey album where space was darker and more foreboding—the new track finds, despite its dark surroundings, the space travelers in suits of gold and silver with star-shaped sun visors and shiny boots, made for the space dance.

With the original Red Snapper rhythm section of Rich Thair (drums) and Ali Friend (double bass) to the fore with David Ayers’ guitar chops nestling around them while long term collaborator Tom Challenger eschews his saxophone and opts instead for some tastily trippy keyboard stabs, which only add to the brewing excitement. “B Planet” will arrive with two additional mixes by Kito Jempere and Uffe and will also be accompanied by a video by ID:Mora.

Formed in 1994, Red Snapper are best known for their unique sound and passionate live performances where they embrace dark funk, hip-hop, dub, psychedelic surf, afro-jazz and beautiful, fragile soundscapes. A compilation of their early EPs Reeled and Skinned was released on Warp Records who consequently went on to put out the ground breaking debut album Prince Blimey in 1996. Over the last two decades the band have released a string of widely acclaimed albums, toured globally and supported the likes of Massive Attack, Bjork, The Prodigy, De La Soul and The Fugees. They also acquired a reputation for their expansive remixing—reworking tunes by Trouble Funk, Garbage, Lamb and Edwyn Collins amongst others.

Following the new album release later this year, Red Snapper will play a special live show at The Jazz Café in London on the 4th of December 2021—more details and dates will be announced.

ID:MORA is a Czech video artist based in Barcelona. “B Planet” is a 3D creation composed of elements sculpted and modeled in Blender with additional components scanned by an Asus 3D scanner. Lastly the Blender outputs were edited in Final cut. Following the evolution of the track, the video is divided into 2 parts. The first part is presented in a narrative way, while in the second part the action breaks down into a psychedelic abstraction, pulling the viewer into the now. Reality peppered with acidic distortions that transforms space into a super-vitaminated universe.
