Over the past several years (6, to be precise), Igloo Magazine has gone through several phases in its development. While visually still quite the same, we’ve grown into a more practical, easy-to-read, and regularly updated online magazine focusing on all things electronic and left-of-center. Having developed and expanded our contributors, each writer at Igloo Magazine excels in what we believe to be a pure passion for music. This 2006 synopsis is meant to be brief, to-the-point, and in general, a recap of sorts detailing where we’ve been and where we’re about to head.
Starting back in early 2000, Igloo Magazine had a few setbacks in its initial launch date with a massive hard-drive failure which ultimately lead to an extra 3-month delay. With support from our good friend PJ at S://Kimo Music as well as David O’Toole (a.k.a. Antarktika; initial Site Design and Layout) and several writers anxious to type away about the music they loved, Igloo Magazine finally launched in mid-December 2000 with several insightful articles. Töshöklabs’ Chad Harrison (current Website Technician/Admin) eventually helped out in several ways both hosting and working the technical glitches throughout the first few years. Chad, while usually under-the-rader, continues to be the driving force behind the functionality and look of the site while yours truly edits, manages, assigns and approves all the articles you’ve read on this website.
Fast forward to 2006 and Igloo Magazine continues to grow each and every week as a non-profit entity that strives at delivering substantial content. Our banners and advertising help to offset the monthly hosting fees. With several key (voluntary) contributors, we’ve exponentially targeted an even larger scope of music and have been on a continual pursuit to highlight and critique hundreds of releases in an effort to become your first resource for abstract electronic music coverage.
For 2007 Igloo Magazine plans to re-launch (yes, we’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again) the website to become an even better portal for all your musical needs. But rather than spoil the beans on what’s to come, please keep in mind we will always continue to follow our mandate to publish articles about current, classic and upcoming music from around the globe. The re-launching of the site has been in working status for several months but isn’t ready to display itself, just yet.
Watch out for our 2006 Top-10’s as they begin to appear this month and in early January 2007.
A special thanks to all who continue to visit these pages.
Happy Holidays and have a great New Year!
