Doc No’s Greenfield Park EP unfolds as a quiet, meditative tension between organic field recordings and delicate modular sound design, drifting from ambient textures into intricate, expansive rhythms shaped by the natural world around it.

Doc No‘s Greenfield Park EP traces a delicate interplay between organic textures and delicate sound design, crafted with a modular synthesizer and field recordings captured during a cabin retreat in the Catskills mountains of New York. Across its five tracks, a quiet tension emerges between the natural and the composed, offering a meditative glimpse into the project’s wider world. The EP drifts from experimental ambient soundscapes into intricate IDM, touches on krautrock-inspired motorik grooves, and unfolds into expansive textural climaxes.

The accompanying video assembles a collage of the surroundings of Greenfield Park, NY, where the EP was created. Built from footage captured on analog Hi-8 tape, it weaves these fragments into a fluid visual narrative that reflects the project’s tactile origins. Exploring the interplay between pattern and chaos in nature, the video lingers on subtle details that quietly informed the direction and texture of the EP.

Davis reflects, “On an early morning walk along the trails behind the cabin, I came across these incredible natural ice formations — thin, puzzle-like sheets etched with patterns that resembled topographic maps or intricate waveforms. I later learned the phenomenon is known as ‘cat-ice,’ and it became a recurring visual in my mind while creating the EP. Observing and capturing the natural world around me became a meditative practice that deeply shaped the music-making process, honored here in the accompanying video and the EP’s artwork.”

Noah Davis, aka Doc No, is a Brooklyn-based electronic musician working within the medium of modular synthesis and field recordings. In 2025, he launched the cassette label Noble Circuit Records and released Quimby Variations, Vol. 1 (NCR-01), a collection of dusty, ambient modular synth improvisations praised by The Wire for its “cosmic twinkle.” Active in Brooklyn’s electronic scene, Davis regularly performs live modular sets including recent performances at James Murphy’s Nightmoves.
