Gustave Savy (aka Startslow) one of the Drawn Recordings crew, has released electronic music with imprints such as Acroplane, Disco_r.dance and he has an EP forthcoming with Drawn. Gustave writes and plays in a saxophone ensemble called Sax Off the Roof, spends spare time making music for television peeps here and there and also squeezes in some coverage as a Contributor at Igloo Magazine.

“This mix is really more of a collision than a mix. That wasn’t the intention when I first set out to put it together, but I suppose it was more or less inevitable. My first intent was to put together a selection of old favorites and more recent addictions in a way that was cohesive, and I think I did achieve this albeit in a slightly unorthodox manner. I suppose my tastes and influences are pretty varied, and this is reflected in the choices of tracks.
I always seem to mix genres in my productions and listening, it’s just a thing that seems to happen. I love the way music can affect one’s mental and physical state, and mixing and manipulating these by proxy of music is really interesting. Having said that, this is not something I make a point of doing specifically, I just felt for example that Skeng (Kode9 remix) would naturally flow from the ska/two tone stylings of the Specials. Likewise, Giant Steps has a similar energy level to the Enduser track, both of which I love, so it seemed quite natural to mix them. Music is not a rigid unyielding thing, and really, there are no rules, only conventions and what seems right to the individual.
This mix reflects my personal take on some of the music I love. It is not contrived, I felt the tracks flowed nicely together. That’s it.”
