Wrath & Apathy surely connotes a dynamic that well describes our society’s conflicted binary, but the music’s immense depth, where the artist alternates unusual rhythmic patterns of confrontational force with his trademark elegiac atmospheres, sub-bass pulsations, and liquifying dronestates, waxes otherwise. 2020’s continuing downspiral notwithstanding, this is a marvelous work that’s nigh on essential, and hits enough sweet spots to enter this year’s best-of list.
