An aptly-titled album that scrapes and chisels its way through heavy sonic debris.
Belarus-based Sound Engineer, Dmitry Stepnov (aka Eff Dst) is back on Hymen with Out Of Body, an aptly-titled album that scrapes and chisels its way through heavy sonic debris. Following up last year’s Blackout might have seemed a difficult task, but Eff Dst does so with utter power and control. “Punch Header” is one such beast, its blackened core and slamming wide beats is cause for alarm alone. A corrosive stream of subconsciousness is unearthed on the gorgeous “Silent Reflections,” a steam turbine running at maximum capacity eventually explodes into perhaps the most emotional of this 10-pack. On the other side of darkness you can find additional FSOL soundscapes brushed up against artists like Architect and Kattoo—reference “Smash Them All,” a ferocious sonic beast of eroded bleeps and blips that expands in all directions. Aggressive industrial beats are reserved for “Ripped Rise,” an impacting instrumental workout of hard drums, rhythmic pulsars, and wide-angle echoes. Elsewhere, tracks like “Sublunar” eradicate all preconceived notions of lively post-industrial that Gridlock once inhabited as “Growing Anger” shreds the landscape into thousands of pieces that eventually coalesces into a destructive force. The title track, a culmination of the above-mentioned notes, is a fractured beat-infested rhythm blast in and of itself. An out of body experience to say the least, and one worth every minute.
Out Of Body is available on Hymen.
