Inkamera :: Time Rewind (Last Known Trajectory)

Victoria Lukas has focused on collaborations over the last few years. After a spate of releases on labels like Frustrated Funk, as Vita, and Clone, with Gerald Donald as Zerkalo, Lukas’most recent partnership has been with Jauzas The Shining. Now she is back, reviving her moniker Inkamera for Time Rewind.

In many respects this new 12” mirrors much of 2013’s In Existendo. At its core this is an electro record, taciturn sounds are central. But this simple labeling would be a disservice, as would a simple past comparison. The organic and synthetic mist into one. Vocals float across the EP, enlivening the barren. The breathy “Skylar” is emblematic of the entire record. Lyrics come in the form of a siren´s call from the clinical core of machines. Echoes and softened speech blur meaning, only a palpable yearning remains. The title piece melts man and machine. Blip and bleep rumble through circuits, lyrics sighed into frigid forms. “No Dead Men’s Cries”swirls in a frozen sky, mechanics gleaming against bright bars. But this isn’t a 12” of bare mechanics, instead they are shrouded in a human haze. A sharp frost snaps for the close, the clinical and methodical “Shto” ushering in a heartless winter.

Electro is usually associated with a certain sharpness of focus. The snare. The stripped back synth. Stark sounds. And although Time Rewind has these elements as well, it has a much softer side. Cold computer electronics which thaw with palpable emotion, the fragility of flesh beside metal, the soul in a synthesizer.

Time Rewind is available on Last Known Trajectory.
