[Info page] This record contains superb traditional analogue sounding synth texture throughout, with each segment of electronic instrumentation being well separated and easily identifiable – nothing is masked. As a release, it manages to incorporate so much, with many combinations and mixes going beyond what might be easily imagined, but of course that’s all part of the appeal.
With regards to vocal work – take the vocal layers on “Astura The Prophecy,” as a fitting example of lavish experimentation, not to mention the rhythmical experiment that unfolds. Going back to what is earthy and natural however, “Autumn Leaves” is introduced with what sounds like lively birdsong before a vocal like texture accompanies exploratory synth work. Vocal layers build gradually until they become more prominent within the piece. Taking a step into darker pasture is “Planetanum Ambient” with a smoky vocal of whisper like touch. With no definite rhythm to dominate, its free spirited movement of music glides ever so gracefully. It’s a lengthily exploration containing random twinkling and spacey experimentation with higher pitched harmony and lower, deeper reaching synths. “Towards the Lighthouse” gives off pulses of light against a gentle watery backdrop. The placid waves open the track up as it builds to a busied movement. Midway, a bass rhythm is introduced, and is rather like a further exploration that takes us out deeper towards the seabed with plenty of hugely effective dynamics. “Deus Ex Machina” gives everything you’d expect of a stand out track. Emerging with a plateau of sounds that perhaps explore only a small surface area to begin with, its energy is packed closely before it moves into another culture – a cheeky side to the track. Not so unruly, but definitely mischievous, this aspect is accompanied by jazz style keyboard riffs and a funky sounding guitar sitting in the background, and a folk style flute that could easily have been on a 1970’s record, pointing towards a psychedelic setting. All things considered, this segment is a bold and very unexpected turn, making it the most outspoken track yet. Chant style voicings return with “Deep Unity.” Definite rays of light that surface with a new dawn. Pulses of bass providing a canvas on which other sounds emerge either brightly or by melting into the existing abstract. Midway there’s a switch to a more modern house style inspired rhythm and pulse, bringing things up to date. “Sky Path Folk Remix” features a Classical/ Spanish style guitar that is simple, naked and beautiful, followed with an ambient rhythm and more tribal awakenings in terms of accompaniment and vocal. What follows is the embracing of more electronic synth elements before it drops back towards soft guitar strokes – another notable track of high standing.
Clearly with Inspirational Power, there’s no room for prediction – not even any hints. Each piece displays its own welcome twist of fate, some of it so diverse, yet at the same time providing a seamless integration of styles, modes, feelings, rhythms and ambience. Overall, it makes for a superb record, with each element developed and exhibited in a wonderfully enchanting and uplifting manner.
