(10.21.06) The anticipation of a new Detalles CD at the beginning of 2007 has the potential to
make me want to retreat into musical solitary confinement for the next three months.
Fortunately, I won’t have to resort to such drastic measures thanks to those
fabulous folks at Kupei. Billed as “a preview to the Micros Morning CD,” the Hello
Donee EP provides a glimpse into what Andres Bucci and Kate Simko have been working
on (aside from their many various other side projects) since their alluring Shapes
of Summer album and performance at MUTEK.CL.
Right from the crisp opening tones of
the title track, Detalles sets the stage for a quality minimal techno listening
experience with inviting warmth to their approach that is a welcome contrast to the
usual ice cold fare typically offered in this area. Bucci’s brother Pier adds his
own dynamics to the remix of “Hello Donee” with the end results making my eardrums
flutter in excitement with the thought of hearing this colorfully multilayered
groove on a good club P.A.. “Move On” actually moves two paces back from the club
mode of “Hello Donee” and finds itself in the plush confines of the cocktail lounge
with a lulling melody that morphs around gently pulsing virtual percussion and
snappy samples. Concluding with an inspired remix of “Move On” by Jonas Bering that
resonates with an echo effect and subtle tempo à la Yo La Tengo, the Hello Donee EP
is a sublime lilt in my post-summer, pre-holiday doldrums that has me anxious for
Kupei to release the rest of Detalles’ latest works.
Hello Donee is out soon on Kupei Musika.
