Wall $treet :: Trading for Love (Mysidian)

The music of Nico Nightingale is progressing quite nicely. With releases on Pylon Records, Bordello A Parigi and Kraftjerkz the NY denizen, better known as Neud Photo, has been pushing his synth soaked disco infused sound to heightened levels. With Pierre Klein those levels are being pushed even further as Neud and Ceci N’est Pas. Now the duo introduce a new moniker on Mysidian: Wall $treet with Trading for Love.

This unheard pseudonym pulls together some of Nightingale’s previous styles. Wave. Italo. Electro. All are present alongside a lean toward the grandeur of the silver screen soundtrack. This influence can be seen from the outset in the slow grooves, sliding bars and staggered samples of “Trading Floor Love.” But don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a movie score to a never made stoke broker love story, this is analogue rich and textured music with a dancefloor edge. But Hollywood is in here. Be ready to hear film’s most famous gives his Ayn Rand echoed speech on the virtues of capitalism; sure he had to be on here!

“Futures” is the most club focused of the EP. Catchy hooks are supported by crisp and snappy beats. The track has an early house quality with its broad bars and funk laden notes and even a bit of…sax? “Victim” takes on a blacker countenance. Bright keys are countered by rasping vocals and a rolling rhythm for a track that sits somewhere between horror and pop. And slasher synthesist Vercetti Technicolor is on call to close. The Giallo Disco founder takes the original and runs a blade along its edge. Arpeggios rumble and bass lines thud in this definite dancefloor darkener.

Wall $treet shows another side of Nico Nightingale and Philip Klein’s abilities. The style pursued is not light years from Nightingale’s earlier works. Warm synth sounds are present, but new elements have been introduced. Drum programs are more intricate, melodies flutter into unexplored flights of fancy without floating off into wilderness. Clever and tight from the two young would-be millionaires.

Trading for Love is available on Mysidian.
