(July 2010) Debunkt’s Spiritual Suffering EP gives an obvious and courteous nod to some of
the great house music pioneers. Consisting of countless vintage sounds, in
short, they don’t make them like this anymore. Dynamically challenging and not
a flat stretch of land in sight, you can almost hear the choice tracks belting
out in a nightclub. Additional layers of resonating sounds add to the variety,
contrasting significantly enough to aid possible trance like states.

The first breath of fresh air is drawn with “Retalinkid Version 1,” a vibrant
track full of round bodied bass. It more than defines hyper activity of the
tuneful variety. The wobbly introduction resembles an attempt to tune in a
wireless, before there is an overhead wire of electricity that strikes to give
the track its rapid movement. “Super Massive Black Hole version 1,” highlights clasps of sounds sprinkled over
a dark tune; the vocal sample gives this a very unique bearing. “Super Massive
Black Hole Version 2,” contains defining buzzes which are not evident in Version
1, however, its tune still maintains a dark after taste.

Each musical addition here has its own unique part to play – it’s jovial and
lucid, holding fine keys cut to unlock all those historic anthemic tunes. With
small translucent inclines of energy, there’s plenty of artful beats coupled
with interesting form.

Spiritual Suffering pushes forth its own distinct sound featuring IDM, house
and live percussion experiments, completed with excellent mixes and superb
production.
