Exael :: Ghost Hologram (Beer on the Rug)

Exael excels in combining the best attributes of ambient, classic electronica and lo-fi aesthetics into a unique, pastoral, pastel vision.

Tumbling, tumbling, ever tumbling, Ghost Hologram spills out of the speakers with the endless crescendo of “Altars,” a Niagara Falls of layered synths transparently rainbow colored at its midst. This debut release by Exael, recorded in Kansas and Missouri over a six month period in 2012, is light, airy and connotative. Each of the relatively brief seven tracks (total playing time just under thirty-four minutes) is a short story narrated with a soft, eloquent voice. “An Apparition” is too good to be real and “Asleep and Dreaming (Intermission)” is pure carnival fare. With the exception of the more fussily churchy, closing title track, Exael excels in combining the best attributes of ambient, classic electronica and lo-fi aesthetics into a unique, pastoral, pastel vision.

Ghost Hologram is available on Beer on the Rug.
