[Release page] Nine Circles are of Peter Van Garderen and Lidia Fiala. The twosome are a synth wave outfit with a year history, a Dutch duo that gained a new following with tracks like “Twinkling Stars.” In recent years the synthesizer pioneers have been active on labels like F.K.K. and in recent months have added a new 7″ to their catalogue.
“How’s About The Aims In Life” burbles to life with deep bass and warbling synths. Vocals are offered by Van Garderen and penetrate with a depressing future vision. Futility and disappointment are the promises, discussed in detailed alongside a plodding synthlines. The 1982 track sounds clear and clean, burning with a hopeless dehumanizing message. Despair orbits Nine Circles, their work trying to align the mundanity of existence and with the gleaming falseness of a better. “Your Heat Burns My Mask (Once In A While)” occupies the flip. A melodic and melancholic piece rolls forth. This modern piece tapers with the same downtrodden emotion which Nine Circles exemplified some thirty years ago. Fiala vocals mesh with synth for a haunting work of wave.
