KiloWatts ‘Acceptitude’

Acceptitude sees KiloWatts (aka Jamie Watts) delving into a luxuriously packaged collection of what may come across as a curriculum vitae featuring his wide ranging musical experience as a multifaceted sound composer. Filled with rubbery, almost squeaky-clean electronics, the ten contained pieces effortlessly featured on Acceptitude bridge several sub-genres together as a theme begins to emerge. Electro, dubstep, bass, funk as well as classical, ambient and piano extracts appear and disappear throughout. Micro-rhythmic blurs of audio textures continue to burst from each angle as robotic grooves slither about in the background.

It’s these deconstructed melodies—tiny as can be—that splash above and beyond an abundance of bass and beat that allows Acceptitude to flourish so briskly. Light and airy, dark and brooding, there’s enough energy packed in this sound container that will certainly appeal to a large audience craving variance in their music libraries. The effort placed in housing this CD shouldn’t be ignored either—the white, embossed gate-fold sleeve is adorned with cyan sinewaves, sublime circuitry and abstract nuggets of artwork that should be framed rather than slid onto a shelf. While most reviews will likely divulge the intricacies of each slab of soundwork—and rightly so—it’s the overall visual and audio qualities that should be absorbed upon receipt of Acceptitude. A fully realized mass of electronic music crafted by Kilowatts’ unique view of art that isn’t bound by any preconceived notions.
